Where to find jobs in UAE today?

Latest job index reveals which industries are offering the most vacancies today in Dubai, other parts of UAE.

Dubai: Although a number of UAE companies have shelved hiring plans, job offers are now beginning to pour in from employers outside the oil and gas industry.

As of January 2016, recruitment activity in the non-oil sectors rose by nearly half (45 per cent) compared to a year ago, according to the latest job index released.

Job listings had dropped considerably late last year as a result of declining oil prices and softening of Dubai’s real estate market.

But according to leading online job portal, which regularly tracks hiring trends by combing through tens of thousands of employer postings online, there has been a turnaround in recruitment activity.

Companies requiring the most number of additional employees this time are those dealing with consumer goods and fast-moving consumer goods. The same hiring trend can also be seen in businesses dealing with home appliances, leather, gems, jewellery, garments and textiles. These employers posted an overall increase in hiring activity of 54 per cent from last year.

Healthcare providers, including hospitals and clinics, are keeping their payrolls open as well, posting a 53 per cent growth in online job offers.

Organisations in the retail, trade and logistics industries also showed a huge appetite for recruitment, registering a 40 per cent increase in job postings.

The growth in hiring activity only indicates that despite the slowdown in the oil and gas industry, a number of employers remain positive about the business or economic conditions.

“The remarkable rise in job opportunities across a variety of non-oil sectors in the UAE shows that despite the falling oil prices, there is an underlying trend of optimism in the market, driving expectations for growth in 2016,” said managing director, of leading online job portal.

“This trend is reflected across the GCC, with job opportunities rising by 20 per cent over the year to January 2016.”

However, UAE professionals looking for new opportunities in other sectors might just end up disappointed.

Hiring activity in the automotive sector and in the advertising, market research, public relations, media and entertainment industry posted modest growths of 4 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively.

The oil and gas industry is still reeling from the impact of low crude prices, registering a 13 per cent decline in job hiring.
